Mission Possible – Cybersecurity in Artificial Intelligence
As artificial intelligence rapidly evolves, individuals and businesses are required to continuously address how they protect and store information.
AI not only offers an array of information at any user’s fingertips, but it also presents simpler ways to perform everyday commercial tasks. In fact, AI has profoundly shaped numerous industries, including cybersecurity. However, easier access to information brings with it fears about the safety and privacy of data. Just like AI helps make everyday tasks easier, it also makes it easier for hackers and shadowy figures to access private and confidential information.
In response to the risks posed to data privacy for individuals and businesses, many state legislatures have begun enacting statutes to attempt to mitigate the risks involved. Among these are the Colorado Artificial Intelligence Act (“CAIA”) and the numerous California Artificial Intelligence Transparency bills. Under CAIA, Colorado requires AI developers to disclose risks of dealing with AI systems and inform individuals that they can opt out of having their data processed by certain AI systems, among other things. In California, certain laws require AI developers to offer individuals tools to detect AI-generated content and to disclose whether certain AI datasets include a user’s personal information. Further, Texas Governor Greg Abbott recently signed into law House Bill 149, enacting the Texas Responsible Artificial Intelligence Governance Act (“TRAIGA”). Among other things, TRAIGA establishes certain disclosure and compliance requirements for AI developers and others who utilize AI. TRAIGA takes effect at the beginning of 2026.
With this information in mind, businesses are increasingly turning to AI to identify, locate, and respond to cyberattacks. The integration of AI into cybersecurity helps reduce the time in detecting, responding, and recovering from cyberattacks. In fact, AI can identify these threats and help stay ahead and protect data from attackers. Furthermore, the integration of AI in your cybersecurity systems allows for continuous monitoring of network traffic allowing it to adapt to potential threats in real time.
